Dear colleagues and friends,

It is my great honor and pleasure to invite you to the 8th International Conference on Methodological Issues in Oral Health Research to be held in Hong Kong, an international city where the East meets the West, in 9-11 May 2018.

In 2004 Dominique Declerck and Emmanuel Lesaffre started up the bi-annual International Conference on Methodological Issues in Oral Health Research (MIOHR) and that conference was held in Leuven (Belgium). The following conferences were held in Ghent (Belgium), Gargagno (Italy), Istanbul (Turkey), Graz (Austria), Adelaide (Australia) and Bergen (Norway). The coming one in 2018 will be the first MIOHR conference held in Asia.

The conference will bring together oral health researchers and statisticians with a mission to promote appropriate methodological techniques aiming to improve the quality of oral health research; and to raise interest among participants in developing new statistical methods that address relevant oral health research questions.

The theme of the 8th MIOHR conference is “Evolution of Evidence-based Dentistry”. Evidence-based Dentistry (EBD) has developed rapidly in the past 20 years. Generation of high quality scientific evidence to solve clinical problems and development of clinical guidelines have been important contributions to improvement of oral health. This conference will review the development and current status of EBD and how EBD has impacted on clinical dental practice.

During the two and a half days in the conference, there will be a number of keynote talks, as well as oral and poster presentations. We welcome your participation in the conference and encourage you to deliver a presentation. Furthermore, there will be a pre-conference and a post-conference workshop.

The conference will take place at the Faculty of Dentistry, the University of Hong. The venue is the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, 34 Hospital Road, Hong Kong.

I look forward to welcoming you in Hong Kong – “The Pearl of the East” and I hope you will have a great memorable time in this beautiful city.
